| Ventilation/HVAC/Indoor Air Quality. Look for location of building air intake vents (outside). Should not be located near parking/vehicle loading areas or close to building exhaust system. System should ideally allow for adequate fresh air (outside air) and be able to maintain desired temperature. Smoking allowed? Ask for building policies/system specifics. Ventilation/lab hoods. Exhaust stack located at least 50 feet from air intakes, windows, etc., 10 feet above roof. If you will install lab hoods, ask for building mechanical drawings and consult with mechanical experts before signing lease. (3000 fpm exhaust velocity - 100 fpm face velocity). | Hazardous Materials Management. Regulated/radioactive/hazardous chemicals and infectious or potentially infectious waste, sharps, and specimens must be handled/disposed of in accordance with the law. In many caeses, campus programs cannot be extended to include off-campus operations. If you generate hazardous/infectious waste, how will you dispose of it? | Remodeling Services/Building code compliance. | Housekeeping. Off campus operations are not typically serviced by campus custodial personnel. | Emergency Preparedness / Response. Written procedures for evacuation from the building, reporting fires to fire department, first aid, etc. Off campus facilities often are not electronically wired to notify emergency responders (police/fire). Employees need to be trained to respond accordingly. Ask about emergency response provisions for the facility. Is this building "seismically" sound?
