Stormwater Pollution Prevention
The University of Utah is a Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) with a discharge permit issued by the Utah Division of Water Quality (DWQ) in April 2003. The permit requires a program with six Minimum Control Measures (MCMs), Best Management Practices (BMPs) for each MCM, and Measurable Goals for each BMP. The University’s Storm Water Management Program Plan describes the MCMs, BMPs, measurable goals, target dates, and our program rationale. The University of Utah's first Storm Water Management Program Plan (SWMPP) was completed and submitted to the Utah Division of Water Quality (DWQ) on May 18, 2005.The six minimum control measures are:
- Public Education and Outreach on Storm Water Impacts
- Public Involvement
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Storm Water Runoff Control
- Post-Construction Storm Water Management
- Pollution Prevention/Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations
Our current SWMPP and annual reports are available for viewing or downloading from this website. If you would like to comment on the SWMPP please complete a comment form, also available for download from this website.
