Respirator Medical Clearance & Fit Testing

If your job requires a respirator, follow our streamlined process for medical evaluations, fit testing, and program enrollment. Get started by reviewing the steps below and contacting the appropriate resources for support.

Things to Consider

Employees who are required to wear a respirator at work are required to complete the OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire and complete initial and then annual respirator fit testing. A DOEH physician will review respirator medical questionnaires. Quantitative fit testing is completed at the RedMed clinic.

  • Contact your supervisor or EHS – questions@ehs.utah.edu if you need assistance evaluating whether you are required to wear respiratory protection.
  • Contact your supervisor or the Occupational Health team health@hsc.utah.edu if you are required to wear a respirator and need to enroll in this program.
  • If you have completed your respiratory medical questionnaire and are cleared for fit testing, contact the RedMed clinic to schedule your fit test: https://benefits.utah.edu/redmed-employee-health-clinic/.
