Home Radiation Safety

The University of Utah’s radiation safety program, directed by the Radiation Safety Committee and managed by the EHS Radiation Safety Division, supports research and clinical work with ionizing and non-ionizing radiation to protect workers and the public. Subject matter experts support the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment like x-ray generators, accelerators, irradiators, lasers, and high-power magnets.

Things to Consider

Radiation – Human Use Research
Research involving human participants is under the oversight of the University of Utah (U of U) Institutional Review Board (IRB). Such studies that also utilize ionizing radiation require ancillary review by either the Human Use Sub-committee of the Radiation Safety Committee (HUS-RSC), or the Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC).
